Is there a room in your home where you spend the majority of your time?

Maybe it’s the kitchen or the laundry room…which you might not have a favorable opinion of being in, depending on whether you enjoy cooking or washing clothes. 😉 On the other hand, it could also be the living room, where you gather as a family to read books, watch movies, or hold family debrief meetings after dinner.

For me, it’s my home office.

When we started the official house hunt, my #1 request was to have enough rooms so I could turn one into a fully dedicated home office. Most offices are crammed into corners of guest rooms or living room nooks. However, because I work from home, I needed a separate space to keep me sane.

I’m happy to say, we found the perfect place!

And yet, four years later, that home office I pined for still wasn’t finished.

Oh, I had the best of intentions. I painted the ceiling my favorite teal color, found an adorable cabinet at Target, and picked up a brand new rug. But every few months, I’d move furniture around, add furniture, take away furniture, rearrange my bookshelves, add wall decor, take off wall decor, etc.

Nothing felt right, and everything felt off.

For about a year, I left it this way. Unfinished. Uninspiring. And little by little, I chose to work from the living room couch, or the kitchen island, or even the closest Starbucks, because I was so uninspired by that room.

That is, until I enrolled in Decorography.

This program literally became my saving grace.

I went through the video classes earlier this year {it’s like home decorating for normal people—not designers} and it rocked my world in such a good way. Maybe that sounds kind of cheesy to say, but honestly, I don’t know where I would be without Decorography. It made all the difference!

Finally, I understood why I had struggled so much before.

I knew why things never felt or looked finished.

And with stacks of notes in hand, I went ahead and tackled my home office with such excitement I never knew existed.

And you know what?? I LOVE MY OFFICE!

I spend every day in here now. Sometimes Saturdays too! Every time I walk in, I’m instantly inspired to tackle the day and be productive until dinner. Some of my blogging friends have their own offices outside the home now, but I can’t imagine going anywhere else.

THIS is why I work from home, and now I have a special space just for me.

A Tour of My Cozy + Colorful Home Office

I have so many favorites in this room, but the desk area is where I spend most of my days. I write every blog post and newsletter from this little section of my office, so you can kind of imagine me sitting here writing to you right now!

Above the desk are my bookshelves, and this is my biggest styling accomplishment to date.

In Decorography, there are three bookshelf styling video classes, and they really helped me tie together this space in both a functional and aesthetic way. It’s a delicate balance to keep everything looking stylish, without feeling cluttered!

The cabinet area holds mostly storage supplies—like printer paper, extra file folders, and envelopes.

On top, I have notebooks for various aspects of my personal life and business {the decorating notebook might look familiar!} and my handy receipt holder. It’s so nice to stuff receipts in there and forget about them until it’s time to update the finances each week.

When I don’t feel like sitting at a desk all day, I’ll switch over to the love seat or sitting area for a different position. This is also where I’ll have my quiet time in the morning to read the Bible, journal, and pray.

I would not have been able to finish this room without Decorography or the Member’s Only Facebook Community to give me feedback along the way. I used to be that person who would vacillate for an hour in the same aisle at HomeGoods, wondering whether or not I should buy something.

Both gave me the tools I needed to make the right decorating decisions, as well as the confidence to execute them!

Instead of ALL the options, Decorography helped me narrow it down to the most important ones.

  1. I’m in LOVE with your office area! It looks so cute. I love the little pops of color in the grey it looks so pretty. Also teal is my favorite color too 😉

  2. I have been feeling really uninspired or months. I quit my job to grow my freelance writing business from the ground up, and haven’t done a thing! This needs to change. I didn’t realize if I redid my space I would eel better. I love the color you chose to paint the ceiling, that is a neat element.
