How to Make Your Home Look Like You Hired a Decorator

Does figuring out how to decorate stress you out? Me too!! That is, until I found THE secret to turn my decorating dreams into reality. You are going to love this simple mindset shift that changes everything you ever knew {or thought you knew} about styling your home!

Do you remember when you first moved into your house or apartment? The vision of how it would look once you made this place your own?

You probably created Pinterest boards for every room, subscribed to HGTV magazine, and watched Fixer Upper like it was your job.

Trying to figure out how to #decorate my home has always stressed me out. I search online for #decoratingtips & always end up with a TON of #decoratingideas & still don't know where to start! Then I found this AMAZING post on the Decorography Course! Now, whether I'm choosing the perfect accent pieces, to picking a whole-house color palette, I feel like I know what I'm doing and #myhouse is really starting to look like the #home I've always imagined it should be! #homedecorBut when it was time to choose the right paint color, decide on a new coffee table, or even style a bookshelf, it’s like a switch was flipped.

And you might have done one of two things:

  • You rushed to fill your home with ALL THE THINGS from Hobby Lobby and HomeGoods, without thinking about what you like vs. what you love.
  • OR you didn’t decorate anything at all because you were too afraid to commit. So you stuck with neutrals and bare walls because heaven forbid a nail.

I felt this exact same way when we moved into our Florida home.

I imagined plush couches and comfy rugs lining the living room, while the perfect shade of greige soaked into my kitchen wall. I even shot an entire “before” home video tour explaining everything I envisioned for all the space!

Now, four years later, I still have mostly bare walls.

Curtains I hate hang in the kitchen, against walls that have been painted three different times. Mostly white pillows, furniture, blankets, and towels dot the different rooms…because I’m terrified of choosing the wrong color.

As I began to decorate four years ago, every time I started to make progress, each and every room undeniably would seem “off.”

Why?

Because I had no idea how to decorate.

And as a result, I started to hate decorating. I wished for all the money in the world to hire an interior designer so I could just show someone the room I pinned on Pinterest and say, “Just do that.”

Let’s face it: unless you have a natural talent for coordinating colors, turning road-side furniture into a masterpiece, or pairing decorative objects with the perfect mix of textures and shapes, your home probably doesn’t look exactly the way you want it to.

Allow me to let you in on a little secret—you’re trying to decorate your home without a strategy.

Enter Decorography: It Taught Me How to Decorate

I never ever thought I would need, or want, to take a decorating course. But the truth is, I needed help leaning how to decorate and wasn’t sure where to turn…other than to beg all my decor-gifted friends to make all the decisions for me!

They said no, by the way.

And I’m glad. Because when I first heard about Decorography {a comprehensive program taught by Jackie Hernandez of School of Decorating}, I had a feeling it was exactly what I needed. Decorography promised to give me the confidence to create a cohesive home myself.

Sounds like a no-brainer, right? But of course, I was extremely hesitant to enroll. In fact, I waited two years before taking the plunge because I was sure I could do everything on my own.

Now I’m kicking myself for waiting so long, because I could have saved SO many headaches and unnecessary Target runs along the way! I had no idea how “wrong” I was doing things until I swallowed my pride and went through each lesson, step-by-step.

And you know what I found?

There is an actual science to decorating! There are reasons why some things look good while other things look “off.” Which is good news. Because that means decorating doesn’t have to come naturally to you.

Let me say that again—you don’t need to be a color, pattern mixing, or styling expert to achieve the home you’ve always dreamed of!

Just follow the guidelines laid out in Decorography, and you can pull off ANY look you want. In other words, once you know how to create your home decorating strategy, you can achieve the same stunning results.

Need to see it to believe it?

Just take a look at this before and after of my home office.

I started with a few pieces here and there that I loved, but other than that, I had no idea what this room needed to be “finished”. After taking Decorography, I got rid of items that didn’t go with my vision for the room, and replaced them things that did. And I’m thrilled with how everything turned out!

For the first time in my life, I know exactly how I want my home to look, and the path I need to take to get there. All because of the skills I learned in Decorography.

Now I can’t wait to help you discover your own decorating strategy too. You don’t have to struggle over decorating decisions anymore.

There is a better way.

How to Create Your Own home-decorating strategy

Throughout Decorography, Jackie shows you exactly how to plan, arrange, and coordinate every area of your home. Basically, she packs everything you need to create a cohesive home yourself, so you can feel confident in every decorating choice you make, from start to finish.

If you don’t know Jackie, you are in for a real treat! She is super down-to-earth and has fantastic style, even though she is completely self-taught.

I think that’s why I love her approachable step-by-step teaching strategy so much. Because she didn’t start out with a natural eye for design, she’s able to communicate {in easy-to-understand terms} how to make your home look—and feel—like a natural extension of you.

What You Can Expect from Decorography

I actually define Decorography as an online program, because it’s made up of FOUR separate courses. It’s literally the biggest library of video decorating classes I’ve ever seen—there is SO much value packed inside, and everything is located in one convenient place!

These are all self-paced, and you get lifetime access to everything. That means you can take it slow, or binge-watch everything right away. It’s totally up to you.

  • Color Confidence teaches you how to create a whole house color palette {mine is shown below}, how to mix and match patterns, and why you need a lighting plan for your home.

The whole house color palette was what turned me from someone who was always trying to decorate my house to someone who was actually decorating with purpose! If you don't know where to start when it comes to how to decorate your home, the whole house color palette will change everything!

  • Planning Precision equips you with how to manage a successful house project from start to finish, the secret to creating actionable mood boards, and which furniture layout looks best for the shape and size of your room(s).
  • Styling Savvy trains you in strategizing pretty + functional styling, as well as giving you an in-depth look into flower arranging so you can rock those grocery-store bouquets.
  • Personalization Prowess walks you through the most simple way to personalize your home so it reflects your unique style. Also in this module are step-by-step plans for the perfect wall decor and tips on how to create an awesome overnight experience for guests who come to visit.

Every course module in Decorography is filled with 30-90 minute video classes, cheat sheets, worksheets, and fun “homework” assignments—every step guiding you toward a home that feels like YOU.

You can decorate you home and LOVE it! This course will give you all the tools you need to learn how to decorate any space!

If you find you’re unhappy with the course, or you feel like you’re not getting much out of it, Jackie generously offers a 100% money back guarantee within the first 30 days. However, I don’t think you’ll need to take advantage of this. I speak from experience: In the very first lesson, I was floored by how much I didn’t know about decorating!

Decorography Bonuses

Everyone who enrolls in Decorography also gets access to TWO juicy bonuses. You are going to love these!!

Bonus #1: Access to the Decorography Facebook Group

Anytime you have a decorating question or need help deciding on the right decor piece, this group is where you can find all the answers.

As I’ve been participating in the group, I have found it so helpful!

When I was looking for certain types of furniture, other course-takers offered suggestions. When I wasn’t quite sure about mixing pillow patterns, I was able to get the feedback I needed to make the right decision.

Bonus #2: Ten Exclusive Interviews with Home and Lifestyle Experts

Jackie Hernandez will guide you through how to decorate your home, step by step in her Decorography course. In addition to all the videos from Jackie herself, she also includes ten video interviews with other bloggers.

In these bonus videos, you’ll learn how they have decorated their own home, glean ideas on how to kill clutter, create a cleaning schedule that works, and more.

You might even see an interview with me tucked in there about how to save money in different areas of your home!

To be eligible for your exclusive bonuses, all you have to do is enroll using this link!

Why I Can’t Recommend Decorography Enough

Here’s the thing—I know you don’t just decide to purchase any course, like Decorography, on a whim. I didn’t either, and to be honest with you…it is an investment.

But this is a home-changing investment that I truly and whole-heartedly believe in.

Instead of decorating your home blind, or consistently buying the wrong pieces and filling your home with items that don’t fit your style, or even making the ultimate paint color mistakes, take Decorography and learn the strategy that will actually save you money in the long run.

Once you have this strategy down, you’ll only buy things that you truly love and can enjoy for many years to come. You’ll have fewer regrets and fewer returns to the store. Joseph is especially happy about this because he was all too often the one to take things back for me!

All in all, this program has completely changed my perspective on how to decorate. I know it will help you define your unique style so you have the confidence to decorate your home.

You want your home, after all, to be a reflection of YOU! And you’re going to feel amazing when you live in a home you love.

  1. I recently took a similar class about fashion called Adore Your Wardrobe and have been looking for something like this. My house is fairly empty because I feel overwhelmed when trying to decorate. Do they offer any facebook live events? or other info prior to registration? Also, is it $300+ per course? Thanks so much for your recommendation. I look forward to hearing from you soon!

    1. I totally understand the overwhelming feeling! I still don’t have a ton of pictures/wall art because I get squeamish at the thought of putting nail holes in the wall and then changing my mind. 🙂

The whole Decorography system is made up of FOUR comprehensive courses. So you get all of them for $397 total, and each course contains dozens of video lessons and tutorials each. I also understand though that it is a LOT of money, especially if you don’t really know Jackie yet!

She has broken off some classes from Decorography and offers them for just the cost of the class if you’d like to see her teaching style without making a bigger financial commitment. You can find the list of classes HERE. There is also a free home styling class on that page you can take as well. I think that goes into her Define Your Style lab course rather than Decorography, but again, you could get a feel for what the lessons would be like.

      Hope that helps!

  2. I am so interested and excited about the opportunity to join Decorography. Unfortunately I won’t be able to get in on this discount opportunity. Finalizing my divorce after 17 years of marriage. I am not sure when I can make a final decision on the home I will permanently live in. But I am sure it will be completely remodeled and updated. Once I know this information I will join Jackie’s course. In the meantime I will stay up to date with all of your free advise, information and help. I will definitely need it. Thanks so much for all that you inspire me to do.

    1. Hi Paula,

I’m so sorry to hear about your current situation. It has to be an incredibly difficult time for you.

I did want to let you know that whenever you buy the course {whether now, or later} you will get lifetime access. This means, if you are able to enroll now, you will get the discount, have access to all the bonuses, and the entire course will still be there waiting for you when you find that new home.

    1. Yes! Once you sign up, you’ll get notifications when the class is about to begin, but you’ll also get an email with the replay video after it’s finished.

  3. Wow I feel like this course was meant for people like me. Lol. I don’t have an eye for design by any means, in fact I’m terrible at it.
