Warning: 9 Bad Beauty Habits You Need to Break Right Now

We’re all guilty of practicing bad habits…especially bad beauty habits. We’ve skipped washing our face at night, used the same tube of mascara for over a year, or popped a pimple that left a mark on our face for a week. We know we shouldn’t be doing these things….but really, how bad can they be? Well, turns out, a lot of them are downright no-no’s, and some can even advance the signs of aging. Yikes!! It’s time to kick these bad beauty habits to the curb and replace them with simple, quick fixes to make sure we don’t revert back to our old behavior. Get ready to look good, and feel good doing it!


Break Up With These Bad Beauty Habits

1. Not washing your makeup brushes You probably think about this every time you put on bronzer and blush, but let’s be honest—we’re all just trying to get out the door in the morning, which makes cleaning our makeup brushes a forgettable task. Newsflash: dirty brushes can actually lead to nasty breakouts because they have tons of bacteria trapped inside. Commit to cleaning your brushes this weekend—promise?? Gentle baby shampoo will work, as does dish soap with a little bit of olive oil. The oil conditions your brushes so they stay in great shape. In the future, brushes should be cleaned monthly, at a minimum. 2. Not removing makeup at night After a long day, the last thing you want to do before bed is wash your face. Bad idea! Sleeping in your make-up results in clogged pores and acne. Your eyelashes can even become brittle and break from crusty mascara. Plus, it just feels plain gross. Take five minutes and use Simple® Micellar Cleansing Water, which uses tiny molecular balls to entrap and dissolve dirt, oil, makeup, and other impurities. You don’t even need to rinse afterward! Shaking your nail polish bottles Have you ever noticed those little bubbles that pop up when you’re painting your nails? Your polish goes on smoothly, but then curdles when dry. That’s because you probably shook the bottle right before you used it, thus trapping air inside the liquid. Thankfully, there is an easy fix. Anytime the polish looks separated, simply roll between your hands until the formula is mixed together. 4. Not applying sunscreen Living in Florida, I have to be a sunscreen nazi, but no matter where you live, it’s still a must. Sun is a major advancer of wrinkles, and skin cancer can become a legitimate fear. Do yourself a favor and use a daily moisturizer, like CeraVe Face Moisturizer With Sunscreen, that has sunscreen already built in. For longer exposure, switch to at least 30 SPF. 5. Not getting a trim Even if you want long, luscious locks, you still have to go in for a trim every few months. Split ends work their way up your hair and make your hair look thinner, shorter, and of course, more damaged. So embrace the cut! Your hair will look and feel much healthier overall. 6. Using dull razor blades Whenever I start itching and getting little bumps on my legs, I know it’s time to change my razor blade. As a frugal gal, this is painful in more ways than one. I want to save money and use my blade as long as possible! But old razors harbor bacteria and tug at your skin, leaving little cuts for the bacteria to slide right in. Get new razors for super cheap by combining manufacturer coupons {there’s always a ton on Coupons.com} with store sales. 7. Using mascara for more than three months The average mascara tube should not be used longer than three months, but how many of us stretch it further than that? Again, bacteria builds up in the tube and can cause a whole bunch of eye problems if you’re not careful. I have ended up with a couple eye infections myself from bad mascara! Put a label on your mascara, along with the expiration date, then throw it out when it reaches that timetable. 8. Styling your hair all the time…with heat Straighteners, blow dryers, and curling irons are your hair’s worst enemy. Use them too much, and those locks quickly become brittle, frizzy, and dry. Let your hair air dry if at all possible, especially if you don’t need to leave the house, and use a deep conditioning treatment at least once a week. Popping pimples Even though we all know we’re not supposed to do it, we still can’t resist squeezing a zit, especially if it’s on our face. But you could cause red splotches, scarring, and a problem no amount of foundation can cover. My suggestion? Watch Dr. Pimple Popper to get your fix.   1. Wow, turns out I`m really bad. I`m guilty of 1,4,5,6,7 and 9 haha. You have convinced me to wash my brushes so they`re drying now. I know 4 is terrible but I just hate the feeling of sunscreen on my face and how it ruins my foundation. I promised myself I`ll start wearing sunscreen at 25 for the anti-ageing thing though. I`ll probably get a hair trim soon too (I have very long hair and I like it so I hate getting trims but I didn`t know not getting trims can make your hair worse). I also had no idea about the razor thing, I`ll be changing mine now. (I thought you only change them when they stop working…). The only ones I probably won`t stop are 7 and 9 because I use mascara once a month ( I wear makeup everyday though) so I don`t think I can afford to stop this…and in my opinion 9 is not too bad if you wash your hands and use a very thin sterile needle or one of those special tools, which I do.

  2. As a teenager, I used to wear makeup every single day. Of course, I was guilty of all the things you mentioned: using a mascara until I applied the last drop, being to lazy to remove makeup at night, popped pimples every day thinking “I can’t go out looking like this!”, yet a big red stain on my face didn’t seem make things any better πŸ˜€

    Now I barely put on makeup, I go months without using it.

    However, I am guilty of not trimming my hair regularly. I can’t remember the last time I saw my hair dresser… Maybe it’s time I book an appointment πŸ˜€

    1. If I go very long without a trim my hair quickly reminds me…with a head full of split ends. πŸ™‚
