It’s no secret…

…that I’ve tried almost every TYPE of planner out there!

Here’s a look back at my “planning eras” ⤵️

📔 TRADITIONAL PLANNER ERA: I started with simple @blueskyplanners during high school and upgraded to @thedaydesigner when I started blogging.

📔 BULLET JOURNAL ERA: I bullet journaled for about three years before writing a book about it (Brainbook) and then a few more years before moving toward a less time-intensive method.

📔 DISCBOUND PLANNING ERA: This notebook let me customize my own planner using printable planner inserts! I started designing planner pages for others and opened up @brainbooklibrary for those who wanted the entire collection. Meanwhile, I began dabbling in digital tools alongside my paper planner.

📔 NOTION ERA: Frustrated that I was using ALL THE TOOLS—a paper planner, Trello, Todoist, Google Calendar, Evernote, and Slack—I combined all the features of these tools by moving entirely into @notionhq.

But paper kept calling me back so now I take a hybrid approach!

→ Google Calendar helps me future plan and time block my days

→ Notion organizes every part of my life and business

→ A blank notebook holds my daily task list and random notes/brain dumps (I call it bullet journal lite).

It’s taken me a while to get to this point and find my groove, but this triple-tool method has finally given me planner peace.

How many tasks do you have in various notebooks, apps, and sticky notes right now? 🫣

I used to be that person… until I found Notion.

Notion is the only tool that contains and organizes ALL my tasks (even future ones that I’m not even sure I’ll do yet!) in a way that makes sense for my brain.

But I still love working from a paper list! So I use a system that gives me the best of both worlds:

1️⃣ Notion for my Master Task List

2️⃣ A blank notebook for my Daily Task List (pulled from Notion based on due dates, energy, and priority levels.)

At first, I liked this phrase.

I heard it listening to Matthew McConaughey’s book, Greenlights and nodded my head as he shared a string of wise sayings.

Then, I wasn’t so sure.

I mean, what’s so bad about working hard throughout the week so you can feel good about taking a break?

🙅‍♀️ Nothing. 🙅‍♀️

But EARNING rest? That verb changes the dynamic.

If you identity as a type-A go-getter, then you’re used to striving for others approval just as much as your own. And when you view productive days as good and non-productive days as bad, then the whole concept of “earning” rest is just another performance-based measuring stick we use to define our worth.

👉🏼In case you need a reminder, you can work hard and rest hard without one requiring the other, and without either reflecting your value as a person.
