Day 8: All About the Accessories {Finding the Perfect Gift Series}

Let’s be honest. As much as we’d like to, we can’t always afford the latest and greatest techie tablets, expensive crafting machines, or a heavy duty kitchen appliances. But that’s OK. You can do a lot of cute things on a small budget and still supplement those bigger gifts with accessories.

First, look around to see what your friend already has, and where she spends most of her time. Then, start thinking how you can help provide a complimentary gift without going broke.

A lot of these items would also be really great finds for a gift basket too.

Office

If you know someone who works a lot outside the home, or actually works from home, you could save them a trip to Staples.

Gift ideas:

  • Post-it’s
  • Pens
  • Containers to organize clutter
  • Calendar
  • Fun shaped paperclips

Cars

If they’re guys, do they enjoy taking care of their ride? If they’re girls, do they like to personalize it?

Gift ideas:

  • Air fresheners
  • Seat warmers
  • Cute bags to hold garbage and other odds and ends
  • Their next oil change
  • Car wash vouchers

Gadgets

Having an iPad, smart phone, or Kindle is all the rage right now, but it can be downright expensive to outfit them with all the accessories.

“I won’t buy an a $2.00 app for myself, but sure would love to get a gift card or the cash towards the app…even if it’s literally a $2 gift card!  It’s the combination of the thought & the something that I wouldn’t buy myself that makes it special.” – Mandy, Daily Cup of Grace

Gift ideas:

  • Screen protectors
  • Covers and cases
  • A month of 4G wireless network coverage
  • Gift cards for apps and itunes

Fashion

If you’re looking for really cute {handmade} accessories, Gussy Sews always has a lovely assortment in her online shop. I also recommend Charming Charlie for color coordinating accessories on a tight budget.

Gift ideas:

  • Handbags
  • Headbands
  • Jewelry

Kitchen

Maybe they like to spend time in the kitchen, but can’t always use the ingredients they’d like, or they could use an updated dish towel set.

Gift ideas:

  • Cookbooks
  • Fun utensils
  • Seasonings and spices
  • Hand towels and dishcloths
  • Aprons
  • Coffee and teas

Crafting

The crafter is always in a middle of a project, and you can help her along by providing some of the accessories. Buying 10 rolls of ribbon at Michaels can be expensive if they’re not on sale.

Gift ideas:

  • Scrapbook stickers
  • Ribbon
  • Pretty paper
  • Yarn
  • Fabric
  • Needles
  • Stamps
  • Special cutters

People can get really excited about receiving an accessory, because it’s not normally something they would buy or treat themselves too. But that’s what makes it really special, and also makes it a perfect gift.
