Where to Buy Essential Oils

In fact, I had a post scheduled to go up earlier this year that completely passed them off. I was tired of seeing essential oils pop up in my Pinterest feed and hearing all my friends talk about them. Seriously……what was the deal with these oils?
After some encouragement and gentle guidance from well-respected friends, I finally tried a few to see if they actually worked, and if quality did indeed make a difference. You see, that was my biggest hangup being such a frugal girl — why would I pay $30 for a bottle of oil when I could get it for $12 from Amazon?
And so, I reluctantly entered this world of essential oils, not sure exactly what I would find.
The answer? A LOT.
Not only is oil adulteration very real {oils only have to have 5% of the actual oil to be labeled pure}, I also found hundreds of opinions on how and where they should be used. There are brands versus brands, dilution of oils versus direct contact, and probably the most volatile argument — whether or not to use oils internally.
While I’m still very much on my own journey to using and learning about essential oils, and don’t have all the answers just yet, I am glad I took a risk and decided to try them for myself. And honestly, that’s the best way you can satisfy your curiosity and learn about them too!
How Essential Oils Work:
Without getting too technical, essential oils are the natural liquids extracted from the bark, root, flower, seed, or leaf of plants — often called the “lifeblood” of the plant because of their powerful health benefits and medicinal properties. These are not to be confused with fatty oils, such as olive oil or coconut oil.
Because the molecules of essential oils are so tiny, they can pass straight through the skin into the bloodstream {through topical use}, and also pass through the “blood-brain barrier”, which is the part of the brain that controls our emotions {via aromatherapy}; both working to keep us healthy and well, assisting our bodies to function the way they’re supposed too!
How to Use the Oils:
Essential oils can be used in literally hundreds, if not thousands of ways, however, I have to be careful at what I say because of FDA regulations. And part of me actually thinks that’s kind of a good thing — I don’t want others misdiagnosing me and telling me to use “this oil” for “that problem”, especially when they’re not a doctor and don’t know my medical history!
That being said, you will need to do a lot of your own research as to how to best use the oils for your body. Every oil works differently depending on your body chemistry, but there’s also so many good resources out there to help you too.
Here’s a peek into how essential oils have already helped me:
- I’ve slept better than I have in years {Lavender, Cedarwood, and Stress Away}
- I’ve calmed myself down whenever I’ve been worried or felt anxious {Stress Away}
- I’ve been able to focus better during work {Lemon and Citrus Fresh}
- I’ve completely rid Joseph’s shirts of this funky odor {Purification}
- I’ve boosted my immune system and bounced back from sickness faster {Thieves}
- I’ve been able to relieve digestive issues {Peppermint}
- Joseph has soothed his sore muscles from exercise {Panaway}
And that’s just the start of the many cool things essential oils can do!
Where to Buy Essential Oils:
If you do decide to invest in essential oils, and it is an investment {but SO worth it!}, I would strongly suggest you consider buying through Young Living.
Yes, I know it’s an MLM {I’m not a huge fan of those either}, but their Seed-to-Seal process was a game-changer for me. So many companies just buy oils from distillers and rebottle them to sell, leaving the opportunity for middle men and possible dilution, and you never know if you’re getting a pure essential oil that way.
Young Living actually has their own fields, harvest and distills their own oils, and then sells those oils through a network of distributors so we can make sure the rest of the world is educated about the oils when they buy.
For oils that don’t come straight from the field, Young Living buys through distillers that use Young Living’s same techniques, then go through rigorous in-house and 3rd party testing to make sure the quality is exactly the same.
The best way to try the oils for yourself, is to get a Premium Starter Kit, which is not only a wonderful value in itself, it will also allow you to buy future oils at a 24% wholesale discount, with no monthly obligation, and no requirements to sell. You just have to buy approximately $50 worth of oils each year to keep your membership, which I’ve already spent just by regularly using my oils!
Here’s what’s included in the Premium Starter Kit:
- Young Livings new Vitality oils: Peppermint Vitality, Lemon Vitality, Copaiba Vitality, Thieves® Vitality, and DiGize™ Vitality.
- Topical and aromatic essential oils: Frankincense, Lavender, Purification, R.C.™, and PanAway®.
- Bonus Oil: Stress Away – brings your kit to 11 oils!
- A home diffuser {LOVE mine!}
- Essential oil sample packs, sample bottles, and sharing cards
- 2 packets of NingXia Red

NOTE: I don’t sell Young Living as a business, but I DO want your essential oil journey to start off right.
So if you end up signing up through my link, I’ll use my commission bonus to mail you an Essential Oil Pocket Reference Guide. This will be your essential oil Bible, and give you a more in depth and scientific look into which oils to use for what.
