It's a pretty common fact that most sit down restaurants have very generous portions, and it's just not healthy to eat everything on our plates. Especially when the calorie count can easily reach into the 1,000 range!
But what if we could take advantage of those large meals, and make it work for our budgets?
Here's how I do exactly that:
- Have each family member order one meal a piece, then cut the food in half immediately after delivery. Eat just one section for dinner, and take the other home for lunch the next day, OR
- Order an entree to share, and ask for an extra plate. Split the entree between 2 people, and take home no leftovers!
Sometimes, I can get even 2 or 3 extra meals out of the dish, and not only does it save on cooking, it also stretches the cost of my entree a little bit further. I've also been known to throw in a few extra rolls that were left over from the dinner table too, but that might be a result of my carb addition.
Either way, I figure if I'm spending that kind of money on food, I better savor each bit and make it last!
