How cute and thoughtful is this!? This girl made a kids activity bin filled with all sorts of kids activities and kids crafts for when her nieces and nephews come to visit. Since I don't have kids, I never have toys lying around either, but I could totally put this together for my friends who have them! #diyactivitybin #kidsactivies #rainydaybin #summerkidactivities #athomekidsactivities

My 5 year old niece has been begging for a sleepover for the past few months. Seriously, it’s all she asks me when we are together! I think it may have to do more with seeing the bunnies than me, but I’ll pretend she just loves her auntie. 😉

Since Joseph and I don’t have kids of our own, there’s a huge absence of toys lying around or things to play with. I have a few items from Goodwill that I’ve picked up here and there, but I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to create some sort of Activity Bin filled with fun things to do while she was here.

Can I just say how thankful I am to all the blogging mamas who share their creative ideas on the internet!? I found so many crafts and activities to put together for her, and she LOVED them.

Now I’m convinced everyone needs an Activity Bin at their house for when kiddos come to visit, or to keep your own occupied when you need a break as a parent. Rotate different activities in and out every month, and you’ll have hours of creative play at your fingertips!

Supplies Needed:

  • Some sort of storage bin or toy box {I used an old portable file box because that’s what I had on hand}
  • Various crafts and activities with supplies for each
  • Activity Bin printable {optional…but oh-so-cute!}

How to Make a Kids Bin:

Step 1: Gather a variety of crafts and activities to put in your bin. I stopped by the dollar store to grab a couple puzzles, foam craft projects, coloring books, etc. Then I scoured the internet for even more ideas.

Here are some of the activities I used:

All you have to do is search Pinterest for “kids activities” or “busy bag ideas” and you’ll come up with loads of options! I even started a new Pinterest board to keep track of all the ideas.

Step 2: Place each activity {especially if it has multiple pieces} into a separate storage bag, and label with a photo or instructions on how to complete. I found this helped my niece know to pick up and put things back in the bag before moving on.

She had so much fun!!

The sky really is the limit in terms of what you put in your own Activity Bin. And it’s super cheap. I spent less than $10 to put everything together, and can’t wait to add more things to it. Now when anyone {under 10} comes to visit, they know exactly where to look first!

What simple activities would you recommend for a kids bin?

  1. What an amazing idea, and it’s all so simple!
    I didn’t have an activity bin growing up, but had a few boxes we used to ‘stuff’ our toys in and keep the room tidy.

    I’ve noticed many kids love playing with colorful building blocks, It could keep them entertained and occupied for hours if they’re old enough. Legos and American Logs are also great for kids to develop their imagination while also keeping busy for a while 🙂
