Homemade Chocolate Chip Granola Bars

My idea of the perfect snack can be summed up inside one granola bar. Yes, the GRANOLA BAR.
Granola bars are:
- Filling
- Tasty
- Chewy
- Portable
- and come in dozens of flavors
But here’s my dilemma: The granola bars I like {AKA Sunbelt} are heavy with sugar and preservatives. On the flip side, granola bars that aren’t filled with junk, cost more than my right kidney. And let’s be honest—some them don’t taste all that good either.
Homemade seemed the only way to go, but the recipe had to be ridiculously easy. Otherwise, I’d end up right back in the Publix granola bar aisle feeling guilty about my heath, or my wallet…or both.
I tried dozens of granola bar recipes before committing to The Frugal Girl’s version. Her granola bars stood far above the rest, and had the exact taste and texture I craved. But of course, I had to add my own little tweak, and will sometimes use raw sugar instead of the brown. The result is a delightful crunch!
How to Make Easy Homemade Granola Bars
Step 1: Combine oats, flour, sugar, wheat germ, and salt in a bowl. The recipe calls for 3/4 cup brown sugar, but you can get away with a lot less because of the peanut butter and honey already included. If you want to replace the brown with raw sugar, use 1/4 cup or less.
Step 2: In a separate bowl, combine egg, oil, honey, and vanilla.
Step 3: Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients, plus yummy chocolate chips and mix. Put into greased 9×13″ pan. Using a greased spatula, spread into an even layer.
Step 4: Bake at 350 degrees for 15-18 minutes, or until lightly browned around the edges. Cool pan on wire rack and cut into bars.

- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1 egg
- 2 tsp vanilla
Instructions

- Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients, plus chocolate chips and mix. Put into greased 9×13″ pan. Using a greased spatula, spread into an even layer.

We make this easy granola bar recipe ALL THE TIME now. They freeze extremely well, and are an amazing addition to have on road trips. Just wrap each bar in plastic wrap, and place in a ziplock bag. Then grab whenever you need a quick and easy snack!

Those Sunbelt bars are the only ones I’ll buy!! But I’ve really been wanting to find a healthier option without losing all the flavor and texture. Definitely going to try this recipe!
