Need home office ideas? This cozy and colorful space fuels creativity with a functional yet stylish design. You won't mind getting work done in an office like this! #officemakeover #officeinspiration #officedecorideas #redecoratinginspiration

Is there a room in your home where you spend the majority of your time?

Maybe it’s the kitchen or the laundry room…which you might not have a favorable opinion of being in, depending on whether you enjoy cooking or washing clothes. 😉 On the other hand, it could also be the living room, where you gather as a family to read books, watch movies, or hold family debrief meetings after dinner.

For me, it’s my home office.

When we started the official house hunt, my #1 request was to have enough rooms so I could turn one into a fully dedicated home office. Most offices are crammed into corners of guest rooms or living room nooks. However, because I work from home, I needed a separate space to keep me sane.

I’m happy to say, we found the perfect place!

And yet, four years later, that home office I pined for still wasn’t finished.

Oh, I had the best of intentions. I painted the ceiling my favorite teal color, found an adorable cabinet at Target, and picked up a brand new rug. But every few months, I’d move furniture around, add furniture, take away furniture, rearrange my bookshelves, add wall decor, take off wall decor, etc.

Nothing felt right, and everything felt off.

For about a year, I left it this way. Unfinished. Uninspiring. And little by little, I chose to work from the living room couch, or the kitchen island, or even the closest Starbucks, because I was so uninspired by that room.

That is, until I enrolled in Decorography.

This program literally became my saving grace.

I went through the video classes earlier this year {it’s like home decorating for normal people—not designers} and it rocked my world in such a good way. Maybe that sounds kind of cheesy to say, but honestly, I don’t know where I would be without Decorography. It made all the difference!

Finally, I understood why I had struggled so much before.

I knew why things never felt or looked finished.

And with stacks of notes in hand, I went ahead and tackled my home office with such excitement I never knew existed.

And you know what?? I LOVE MY OFFICE!

I spend every day in here now. Sometimes Saturdays too! Every time I walk in, I’m instantly inspired to tackle the day and be productive until dinner. Some of my blogging friends have their own offices outside the home now, but I can’t imagine going anywhere else.

THIS is why I work from home, and now I have a special space just for me.

Ready to take the official tour?

A Tour of My Cozy + Colorful Home Office

I have so many favorites in this room, but the desk area is where I spend most of my days. I write every blog post and newsletter from this little section of my office, so you can kind of imagine me sitting here writing to you right now!

Above the desk are my bookshelves, and this is my biggest styling accomplishment to date.

In Decorography, there are three bookshelf styling video classes, and they really helped me tie together this space in both a functional and aesthetic way. It’s a delicate balance to keep everything looking stylish, without feeling cluttered!

The cabinet area holds mostly storage supplies—like printer paper, extra file folders, and envelopes.

On top, I have notebooks for various aspects of my personal life and business {the decorating notebook might look familiar!} and my handy receipt holder. It’s so nice to stuff receipts in there and forget about them until it’s time to update the finances each week.

When I don’t feel like sitting at a desk all day, I’ll switch over to the love seat, or sitting area, for a different position. This is also where I’ll have my quiet time in the morning to read the Bible, journal, and pray.

I would have not been able to finish this room without Decorography, or the Member’s Only Facebook Community to give me feedback along the way. I used to be that person who would vacillate for an hour in the same aisle at HomeGoods, wondering whether or not I should buy something.

Both gave me the tools I needed to make the right decorating decisions, as well as the confidence to execute them!

Instead of ALL the options, Decorography helped me narrow it down to the most important ones.

I get so excited about this program…I can’t keep quiet about it.

If you want to learn more about what’s included in Decorography {Hint: There’s over 80 video classes, and yes, I counted them myself!}, then pop on over to this post where I give you the full rundown, including what to expect in each module.

Whether you enroll in the program or not, I hope this room reveal challenges you to tackle at least one room in your house this year. Choose a room where you spend the most time. Make it functional. Make it gorgeous. Make it YOU.

I want you to walk inside your house, see that room, and feel like you’re home.

A year from now you may wish you had started today. – Karen Lamb

I have been feeling really uninspired or months. I quit my job to grow my freelance writing business from the ground up, and haven’t done a thing! This needs to change. I didn’t realize if I redid my space I would eel better. I love the color you chose to paint the ceiling, that is a neat element.

I’m in LOVE with your office area! It looks so cute. I love the little pops of color in the grey it looks so pretty. Also teal is my favorite color too 😉

Now that we live this open roading lifestyle, I try to practice hospitality in the ways that I can. Even if there are seasons when practicing hospitality isn’t always feasible.

Maybe you’re managing a work deadline. Or you’ve needed to step back and practice more self-care. Maybe you’re cautious as a result of this virus. 🦠

Here’s the thing—you can practice hospitality without anyone stepping inside your front door. 💞

That’s because hospitality isn’t about you. It’s about the people we invite to do life with us, whether that’s inside or outside our home. It’s about making them feel comfortable, valued, and loved. Hospitality is others-focused.

So invite someone to go for a walk.🚶‍♀️
Share a socially distanced meal. 🍽️
Start a virtual book club.📚
Text a friend just to “check in.” 📱
Send a gift card to someone who’s having a rough time so they can buy themselves a treat.💌

You can still build authentic relationships wherever you are.

What will you do to practice hospitality today? Drop a comment below so we can exchange ideas!
When you want to “make over your finances”, wh When you want to “make over your finances”, what first comes to mind? 🤔💭

Cutting back on a few expenses? Overhauling your budget? Establishing an Emergency Fund...or increasing its size? 💰

These are ALL worthy endeavors. 👏

But none of those things matter if you don’t check in on your finances on a regular basis. 😳

It only takes a couple of days (or weeks) for that motivational wave of “I’m gonna become a financial rockstar” to wane... then fizzle out completely. 🤯

That’s why the most important financial habit you’ll ever create is a weekly finance routine. 📆

In this newly-released blog post, I’m sharing why a weekly finance routine will influence your bottom line more than anything else, as well as dish ALL the details of what I do, every Friday, to get in tune with my bank accounts and budgeting app. 📱

If you have a similar routine (or want to adopt one for the first time!), I’d love to hear about it! 👇🏻
Over the past six months, I’ve changed. ⁣ ⁣ Over the past six months, I’ve changed. ⁣
⁣
1️⃣ Joseph and I adopted a plant-based diet.⁣
2️⃣ I got the tattoo I’ve been wanting for years.⁣
3️⃣ And last November, we bought a motorcycle.⁣
⁣
Needless to say, people have commented about my recent changes too.⁣
⁣
Most are positive. 🥰⁣
⁣
Others are not. 😳⁣
⁣
And of course, in typical people-pleasing fashion, I tend to focus on the critics more than the cheerleaders. 📣⁣
⁣
But you can't live your life by other people's expectations of you.⁣
⁣
I'm not saying to disregard what anyone has to say or ignore every opinion that doesn't line up with your way of thinking. Listen to wise counsel and learn everything you can from those who've walked whatever road you want to travel. 💞⁣
⁣
But know the difference between wise counsel and someone who wants to subconsciously direct your life.⁣
⁣
Because the critic doesn't get to live your life.⁣
⁣
You do. 🥳
I’ve seen a lot of new faces follow me this mont I’ve seen a lot of new faces follow me this month—welcome! 👋

My name is Kalyn (swipe right to see my husband, Joseph, and I shivering at the beach). We travel full time in an RV, but are Floridians at heart. 60 degrees is NOT warm enough for a beach day! 🏝️

I started blogging in 2012 to share my love for saving money. Today, I help thousands of women live a more minimalist lifestyle, establish planning systems and routines, and pursue positive personal growth. 💪

It is a huge privilege to connect with you here. 🥰

Other random facts: I love to read (lately I’m a fan of psychological thrillers), crocheting relieves my anxiety, and I’m five months into eating a plant-based lifestyle. 🌱

I used to hate meal planning and being in the kitchen but going vegan helped me fall in love with cooking nutritious meals. 🍽️

New or not, thank you for adding me to your feed. I’m so grateful we connected on social media.

Now it’s your turn! Share a random fact about yourself in the comments. I want to get to know you better! 💞
Minimalism ≠ Deprivation.⁣ ⁣ Sadly, I find m Minimalism ≠ Deprivation.⁣
⁣
Sadly, I find most people resist minimalism because they can't wrap their head around "having less." People tend to equate this movement with blank walls, white IKEA furniture, and decluttering everything in your home down to practically nothing so you can live full-time in an RV. Like me. 😉⁣
⁣
But, while minimalism could be all that, this mindset misses the point. Minimalism is not only about “having less.” 🚫⁣
⁣
It’s so much more than that.⁣
⁣
This week on the blog, I'm sharing the REAL definition of minimalism (that people who love their stuff can totally get behind!) as well as practical ways to incorporate minimalism into your life. 🎉⁣
