Can we please STOP saying self-care is selfish? 🛑

This mostly comes from the Christian community who labels self-care as "misguided," "unbiblical," and even an "idol." (I share this faith, but not this viewpoint).

Let me be clear: I *do* agree that we shouldn't neglect our responsibilities completely for the sake of a little me-time. Your family still needs you. Your church still needs you. Your community still needs you.

But people don’t need a frazzled, stressed-out martyr who serves out of 😕obligation😕 rather than ✨joy✨.

Because when we demonize rest, we inadvertently swing the pendulum the other way and create an idol out of working/serving/hustling.

When it comes down to it, self-care is all about doing things that help make you a better person—spiritually, emotionally, and physically.

And that's not selfish. It's just wise.

👉🏻 What are your thoughts on self-care?

Humans don’t like hard. We’re wired to do wh Humans don’t like hard.

We’re wired to do whatever’s easiest… like comparing ourselves to the Instagram account that makes us feel crummy instead of going for a run.

That’s why our habits need to be ✨CONVENIENT ✨ so they actually stand a chance against our human nature. (And so we can still do them even when we don’t feel mentally so great!)

👉🏼 Like creating a donation box so every time you spot something you don’t need, you can throw it inside.

👉🏼Like setting out your workout clothes the night before so you don’t spend extra time deciding what to wear.

👉🏼Like keeping a set of cleaning supplies in every bathroom so you don’t have to walk back and forth.

Take a good look at the habit you want to cultivate and identify what about that habit makes it so hard to do. Then find ways to eliminate and streamline those obstacles as much as possible.

If you need help brainstorming, tell me what habit you’re struggling with and why, and I’ll give you some ideas! 👇🏻

SECRET OF SURVIVAL ⬇️ Plan a Buffer Day after SECRET OF SURVIVAL ⬇️

Plan a Buffer Day after a BIG DAY.

A “Buffer Day” helps your mind and body recover from exerting so much energy the day before. If you jump right back into your normal life, you’ll actually be LESS productive trying to push through the fog.

But you have to PLAN AHEAD to be successful.

On your Buffer Day:

🤍 Don’t schedule any social activities or appointments

🤍 Limit your to-do list to your top three must-do’s

🤍 Practice a lot of self-care!

We’re humans, not robots.

A Buffer Day helps you respect your limits. 🙌

Why is it SO DANG HARD to quiet your mind? 🤦‍ Why is it SO DANG HARD to quiet your mind? 🤦‍♀️

Sometimes my head physically hurts because I can’t stop the 159 thoughts bombarding it all at once. (Especially with OCD).

If you can relate, here are some tricks I’ve learned to calm the crazy:

🧠 Take a deep breath… multiple times.

🧠 Pull out a notebook and brain dump EVERYTHING that is going on in your mind right now. Write until you run out of things to say (or your hand starts cramping) 😆

🧠 Tackle the easiest thing off that list. This will motivate and encourage you!

🧠 Establish separate worry times. Tell yourself you can worry about the THING that’s bothering you later. This gives you permission to let it go for now.

🧠 Go for a walk or hike. Just being in nature will soothe your mind and soul.

Most of all, remind yourself that you are in control. You’ve got this!

Don’t forget to SAVE + SHARE.
